Coloin - This photo is taken from the Old High Church Tower, which was the mediaeval Parish Church of Inverness. The Church was re-built in 1770, and known as the English Church, as no Gaelic was used in the Services. I suspect the Photo says "Inverness from the E C Tower" English Church Tower, noy "E G" Tower.

Or is it the 'F C' Tower? If it were taken from the tower of the Old High Church, the Free North Church would surely be in the foreground. Is that the (shadow of the) Greig Street Bridge support cable in the bottom right corner?

The La Scala wasnt where Eastgate is now, it was where they are building new shops with flats above, just across from T K MAXX. (just around the corner from the Library) I remember when it just had the one screen, also going to see a film after it was converted to a 2 screen cinema. One of my first memories as a little girl of 1 or 2 was going to the La Scala with my Godmother. I was born in 1973

I can remember horses getting shoed in the smiddy on the right "at the bottom of the hill coming down from the Crown" before 1973, but the La Scala was always on Academy Street at the junction with Strothers Lane, just across from Burnetts bakery shop and restaurant.

La Scala was on the corner of Strother's Lane and the one you remember would be the Playhouse where Jimmy Nairn decorated the cinema every christmas into a fairyland for the children. I think you may see a picture of it on Am Baile. www.ambaile.org.uk
Cheers,
Frances.

The Playhouse was on academy street just at the foot of Hamilton Street and Inglis Street. The La Scala was where R.A. Stewart says it was. I worked in both cinemas as a projectionist between 1966 and 1973.
